Probably the best food we had on the island: sandwiches / bagels; espresso; wine; and brunch were all superb. The setting is great too, with a nice outdoor space and a carp pond.

So fabulous we came back twice during our visit to the Big Island! I had the perfect tuna melt both times, my mother had the pork and brisket and we paired our entrees with the German Reisling that is perfect. Do order the catch of the day on the side if not your main, it's not to be missed and was divine. Cheers to the fantastic staff and beautiful location as well. Come here before a hike in the Rain Forrest or after Kona coffee tasting. We could only do lunch as dinner was booked up in advance, make reservations if you can! Mahalo and Aloha for the memories, Holuakoa staff!

This hidden gem serves fresh and upscale food. Always get reservations, they are usually quite busy. Check out the weekend brunch for yummy specials, and get serenaded by coqui frogs at night time. The casual cafe has a limited menu and drinks, and is popular with locals..

One of those places that are deceptive looking, from the outside, but very nice, on the inside. Excellent food, but don't be in a hurry. It's a place to sit down and relax with no particular hurry.

Great place, we had to wait a little to be seated but it's worth it. The seating area is beautiful and would be good if you had even a large group- peaceful and lovely.

We grabbed coffee here almost every day of our stay. All of the baristas were friendly and our drinks were delicious. A great selection of snacks and other unexpected bonuses such as local kombucha.

It was great food, but the wait time was stupid and unreasonable. There were only four tables occupied there and it took around two and a half hours to get our food. It is also not kid friendly at all. They typically have around 22 items and all of them are dusty or prepared in a "mommy I'm not trying that" sort of way. Overall the food was good

Seasonally diverse cafe and fine "style" dining with a balanced menu for every appetite and food preference. Prepare to relax and enjoy the slow food environment and cordial staff. Certainly this needs to be too of your food destination list when on the Kona side. Mahalo!

Hands down our favorite restaurant on the island! Such a sweet ambiance tucked into the mountainside. Outdoor seating is lovely and the food is even better! We come here when we stay on the island and love it every time.

Started off poorly as we were very hungry and in a bit of a rush, it took a little while for the food to come out, and there were mosquitos... But the food was so worth it, maybe one of the best meals on the island, the ambiance was nice too other than the bugs.

We didn't have a reservation and this is a clear disadvantage in this restaurant! We waited like 5 minutes at the "wait to be seated" sign until someone talked to us and after we said we have no reservation, they asked the couple behind us if they had one and let us stay at the sign while the other couple was led to their table...did i mention that half of the tables were empty and two waiters were standing and chatting at the bar???Then we ordered and had to wait over 1 hour for our food, while our waitress did not check in once with us!Food was alright!not great, but good! Maybe a little expensive! What a shame! Very nice place! Why do you treat your customers this way???

We really enjoyed lunch here. The food was healthy and delicious. Unique menu with lots of great options. Pictured is the salad with fresh fish of the day (Ono) and the falafel plate. Fish was perfect. Incredible falafel balls, different (and better) than any we've ever had. Staff is friendly and chill. Outdoor covered seating was perfect.

Lovely surroundings, mediocre food and service. We had a late lunch, missing the crowds, yet service was very slow. Soup arrived sort of warm, needed to be sent back. The Mahi sandwich was served on an overwhelmingly large, hearty piece of bread, which was a poor complement to the fish. The BBQ pork over cornbread was dry. We took guests and it was our first visit, doubtful we'll try again.

Best food I've had in Hawaii out of any meal of the 3 islands I've been to. INCLUDING best vegan dish I've tasted too (my wife is vegan I tried some of hers.) If you're a foody come here, whoever the chef is has put together a fantastic menu and it's very dialed.

This place was the perfect off the beaten path dinner. The setting was gorgeous, with the vines, twinkle lights, and jazz music. The menu is set daily, with what they source from local farms. The appetizer set the bar incredibly high, and each dish that followed surpassed it. I would go there for just the Apple banana cream pie!

MOSQUITOS! Otherwise... Schwifty had the grass-fed beef burger medium. Veeerrrry nice. Table had salads, soups, tuna. Soups were cold, and bread wasn't replaced on warmup -- which was returned much, much later.. Otherwise the beverage selection was good, and the garden dining amongst the koi ponds was nice.

Fantastic food. The seating arrangements are really cool as there are a lot of different pergolas and platforms on three different levels/floors to sit at. Lots of table choices! Food comes slow, but it's worth the wait. We ordered the chicken and fuji apple salad sandwich, along with the catch-of-the-day and bacon on a sandwich. Coffee was good as well.

Great service unbelievable food wonderful ambience. A total hidden gem up on the mountain above Kailua Kona and not be missed. You do need some bug spray but trust me that it is absolutely worth it.

We arrived in this part of the island in hopes to experience this awesome cafe that was on many Ò€œThings to-do on the Big IslandÒ€ lists as it made it my list of things I wanted to do, to say the least we were excited when we came across it by accident. When we entered the cafe, there were two workers (neither greeted us or acknowledged us), one carrying on a conversation and the other with, what we thought, time to spare to ask about their menu. All the individual had done was point at the menu and went back to whatever it was to keep idle hands Ò€œbusyÒ€. Mind you, there was only 5 of us total in the cafe. We were wanting a bite to eat but we looked back and none of the workers acknowledged our presence, so we left. Very DISAPPOINTED in their behavior of their Ò€œcustomer serviceÒ€. We do NOT recommend this place.

The service is great and the ambiance is lovely, but the food is the best. This is a little hidden gem.I've been here a few times now, and ordered something different each time. The food is consistently amazing, and the wait staff is very good at what they do. I've had the fish with bacon sandwich, the soup/salad combo, and the polenta (which had the best red sauce I've had in years). The burger is great too. Don't forget to try the desserts!

Fantastic location paired with fantastic meal options. Everything is locally sourced, and the quality reflects that. Service was prompt, and provided great suggestions. The view down to the coast of Kona makes for a great backdrop, especially around sunset. Well worth the trip off the highway to see.

Very disappointing!!! We drove about an hour to get to the restaurant and we didn't have a reservation but we decided to try our luck. It was our last night on the big island but this experience put a stain on our whole trip.We walked in and waited by the reception table for a few minutes. A waitress asked us if we had a reservation and we said "no". She said that they're full but that she'll see what they can do. The restaurant didn't seem full at all and we hoped that they might be able to get us a table. After that, they just left us standing ther in the middle of the restaurant while they walked past us and served other guests. We waited for about 10 minutes and they just straight up ignored us. We were so embarrassed! My 7yo daughter asked the server if she could get some water but the server just ignored her without saying a word. We walked out and nobody even looked at us twice. Never felt so embarrassed at a restaurant in my life!!!

Fantastic gem! We visited here on our last night for a special dinner and it was amazing! The outdoor open air dining area is stunning with the lights, great music and the frogs. Service was excellent and the food was so delish. One of my favorite meals in the Island. Don't miss this place. My whole family loved it.

Decided to take the family here for dinner based on all the amazing reviews. The positive is that the ambiance is very nice. Negatives: 1) 1.5 hr wait from the time we ordered till the food came (I understand this is island pace, but come on)!!, 2) there must be a salt shortage because they missed that and flavor on my risotto,. 3) mediocre service (no checking in during our 1.5 hr wait). I was really hoping that this place was going to give some good memories of awesome big island food, but the search goes on.

This beautiful, lush garden setting placed on top of the hills in Kona is severely lacking in execution. The host presumed we had a reservation instead of asking, then made it seem like an inconvenience that we didn't. The steeply priced entrees were decent, but cost about $10-15 too much. After waiting close to an hour for our food, the pasta dish we ordered tasted like noodles from a Campbell's soup can with some mushrooms thrown in for $36. Then the berry crumble took another 25 minutes, was burnt and was mostly granola.Redeeming qualities were the brie bruschetta appetizer, the brisket, and our lovely waitress. Overall consensus: save your money, go elsewhere.

We went exploring and stumbled on to this wonderful cafe/restaurant. In our ten day stay we ate here twice. The covered outdoor garden dining area, which over look the pacific at sunset, are gorgeous. We were serenaded by evasive frog, croaking delightfully. The local sustainable fresh food was so delicious, fresh and served impeccably. That's why went back twice in ten days. Highly recommend,

Lovely outdoor setting, creative menu, delicious food and strong bloody mary. More on the romantic side, consider this a date place as opposed to family dining.

The food was good - all fresh and delicious - but points lost on service. Had to ask for salt and pepper, and cream and sugar for the coffee. The toast came dry, missing the "butter and assorted jellies". Servers were hard to flag down. Took 20 minutes for the check. Despite the yearly event taking place outside their door they were understaffed for the crowd wanting to dine there.

Had coffee at the cafe with friends and the staff was so sweet. We had 4 kids and they just played outside with the toys in the cafe. Very kid friendly. Good drinks too and vegan friendly!! My husband and I also at the restaurant for a date night and it was such a sweet, romantic atmosphere. Amazing food too!! We raved about it and still talk about the things we got. I would highly recommend for a date night or a nice outing.

We love Holualoa Gardens, local, seasonal fresh produces, cooked to perfection especially the fishes in a magical garden. If you are visiting our beautiful island this is one restaurant you should make sure you eat at. Further more the owner and his team volunteer with local children schools to teach the future generation how to eat, grow, cook local, seasonal, fresh produces. A great business doing wonderful things for the community, the kind of business that will always get my family support.

Questions & Answers

They do.

I'd ring them and ask. Whilst the Google maps community might have an opinion, only the establishment themselves can give you a definitive answer.

Not sure that they have any specific vegan items on the menu, but they should be able to fix something like salads and fruit.
